20from%20historical%20reports%20to%20provide%20an%20analysis%20of%20how%20sterilizations%20and%20NC%5Cu2019s%20program%20evolved%20across%20space%20and%20over%20time.%20We%20evaluated%20whether%20a%20county%5Cu2019s%20proximity%20to%20the%20state%5Cu2019s%20sterilization-approving%20board%20was%20associated%20with%20its%20female%20sterilization%20rate.%20Distinct%20spatial%20patterns%20emerged%20between%20those%20in%20institutionalized%20versus%20non-institutionalized%20settings%2C%20suggesting%20that%20processes%20of%20policy%20implementation%20for%20the%20program%20were%20multifaceted.%20We%20suggest%20that%20the%20Eugenic%20Board%5Cu2019s%20attachment%20to%20networks%20of%20professionals%20trained%20in%20eugenic%20ideology%2C%20appropriate%20local-level%20champions%20and%20funding%2C%20as%20well%20as%20overlap%20with%20other%20social%20ideologies%20were%20spatially-relevant%20factors%20that%20influenced%20county%20sterilization%20rates.%20While%20NC%20no%20longer%20has%20a%20eugenic%20sterilization%20program%2C%20a%20better%20understanding%20of%20this%20history%20may%20provide%20insights%20into%20current%20reproductive%20health%20services%20provision%20and%20utilization%2C%20as%20well%20as%20into%20contemporary%20views%20regarding%20fertility%20and%20reproductive%20capacity%20in%20the%20state.%22%2C%22date%22%3A%222020%22%2C%22language%22%3A%22%22%2C%22DOI%22%3A%2210.1353%5C%2Fsgo.2020.0020%22%2C%22ISSN%22%3A%221549-6929%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%5C%2F%5C%2Fmuse.jhu.edu%5C%2Farticle%5C%2F761598%22%2C%22collections%22%3A%5B%22P8MAENS7%22%2C%22SEZIHZTS%22%5D%2C%22dateModified%22%3A%222021-06-24T15%3A53%3A56Z%22%7D%7D%5D%7D
